July Uprising Commemoration Museum

Aynaghor Project -Gonobhaban, Sher-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka

Project Overview

The July Uprising Commemoration Museum, located at Gonobhaban, Sher-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, is a historically significant project aimed at preserving memory, struggle, and collective resilience.

I had the privilege of contributing to this landmark initiative by working on the Aynaghor (Mirror Room) layouts under the visionary leadership of the main designer, Marina Tabassum.

Beyond design input, I served as the Supervision Engineer for the overall Aynaghor project, ensuring execution aligned precisely with the design intent within an extremely compressed timeline.

My Role in the Project

Layout Design Contribution -Aynaghor

I was directly involved in preparing and refining several layout configurations for the Aynaghor exhibition space. The design demanded:

  • Precise spatial organization

  • Controlled circulation paths

  • Emotional engagement through architectural form

  • Accurate placement of display panels and reflective elements

The challenge was to balance narrative storytelling with structural feasibility.

Supervision Engineer – Execution Phase

As the supervision engineer, my responsibilities included:

  • Coordinating with contractors and skilled workers

  • Ensuring design fidelity during construction

  • Monitoring material quality and installation standards

  • Daily progress tracking to maintain schedule compliance

  • Problem-solving on-site constraints

Given the exhibition-based architectural detailing, even minor deviations could compromise the intended spatial experience. Constant site presence and decision-making were essential.

The Biggest Challenge: Time

This project was highly challenging due to its tight 1-month construction timeline.

  • Construction Start: June 2025

  • Completion & Inauguration: 5 August 2025

Delivering a museum installation project—especially one with symbolic and spatial sensitivity—within such a short period required:

  • Efficient coordination

  • Parallel task execution

  • Rapid technical decision-making

  • Extended working hours

  • Strong teamwork

Despite the pressure, the project was successfully completed on time, maintaining both design quality and execution standards.

Engineering & Emotional Experience

This project was not just about construction—it was about responsibility.

Working at Gonobhaban, a nationally significant location, added a layer of gravity to the work. Every structural detail, panel alignment, lighting fixture, and finishing element had to be precise.

The Aynaghor space demanded:

  • Fine finishing accuracy

  • Clean detailing

  • Structural reliability

  • Seamless integration between architecture and installation

Seeing the space transform from layout drawings to a completed commemorative environment within weeks was deeply rewarding.

Inauguration -5 August 2025

The successful inauguration marked the culmination of intense teamwork and disciplined execution. Completing a culturally significant museum installation within a month stands as one of the most demanding yet fulfilling experiences of my professional journey.

Reflection

The July Uprising Commemoration Museum project strengthened my capacity in:

  • Fast-track project management

  • Architectural coordination

  • On-site technical supervision

  • Pressure handling under national-level deadlines

  • Precision-driven execution

Being part of a project led by Marina Tabassum and contributing both in design and supervision roles has been a milestone in my career.

This experience reaffirmed that engineering is not only about structures—it is about shaping spaces that carry memory, meaning, and history.
